Henry III granted citizens of Worcester in 1227 a charter which incorporated the establishment of a guild of merchants to control trade within the City. This hall known as the Guildhall became the centre for administration of the City and the local court of justice. The current Guildhall is a truly beautiful building dating back to 1721. Although the Worcester’s town hall Guildhall was rebuilt and despite the disbandment of the guild of merchants its original name has remained so it is still known as the guildhall.

The cells that still remain under the guildhall were probably in force since the Tudor times – notoriously the ‘peephole’ under the north wing, where the jailer kept a alehouse to provide those prisoners who could afford to pay with food and liquid sustenance. As late as the 19th century and as early as the 20thcentury, juveniles were kept here for capital punishment purposes. Reported sightings of the spirit of a young boy who resides in the cells have been seen by visitors. It is recorded that a young boy hung himself here. Screams and moans have been heard continuously for many years in the cells by staff and visitors alike. Staff at the Guildhall even today report ghostly sounds and unnerving rattles that still penetrate the walls that once housed thousands of prisoners, until they met their gloomy fate. Will the once trialled entities that still frequent the court room watch over you and let you know they are there with us? What will you encounter or who will you encounter whilst you delve in to the paranormal of Worcester Guildhall?
